Selected Record: Of Oracles and Sirens

Status Report

My manuscript is officially out for line and copy editing! I'm nearing the end of this journey for Of Oracles and Sirens and I could not be more excited! That said, I am now switching gears into full-steam marketing mode. Thus, I'm making some changes to this space in what I hope will be a more valuable edition of my usual blog posts.

Firstly, these posts will be on a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly basis going forward, largely dependant on my activity levels and whether or not I need a break at the moment! They'll be a place for people who don't follow my social media posts to check in, and will also have a few extra goodies that don't make it into those other places.

This section specifically, then, is fairly self explanatory: a place for me to post updates on my state of mind. Lets walk through the other sections!

Highlights from the Archive

Here I'll be posting some musings on my recent social media posts. I have a plan in place to keep content moving and hopefully build up a following leading up to the book launch. Here are some previews of what you can expect:

  • Requiem Logs - These will be in-universe logs, internal memos, or perhaps even audio clips from various people onboard the Requiem de la Lune, the ship on which my book takes place. Expect one of these per week starting next month!

  • Scientific Musings - In which I share an interesting article pertaining to some bit of science or technology which may appear in my book or gets me excited for ideas for the next book! And here I can provide an example:

    • I ran across a story about scientists using the gene splicing technique known as CRISPR to genetically modify wheat to dramatically boost its ability to attract nitrogen fixing bacteria. Aside from the great benefits here on Earth this provides, it also moves us ever closer to being able to grow staple crops like this in a hydroponic environment like we see onboard the Requiem. I'll provide the releveant social media links to each story, as well as a direct link to the news article itself for those who prefer to avoid social media all together. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1A4yuRC8xo/

  • Milestone Updates - Any big updates (like the aforementioned start of line and copy editing, or ARC reader feedback progress, etc) will appear here. Expect these to be less frequent.

Behind the Curtain

Here we will see some behind the scenes thoughts, perhaps social media posts I decided not to make, a decision I arrived at, a theme I've noticed popping up in my writing, things of this nature. I may also include some writing process musings here as well. This section will be exclusive to the blog, so you won't see this content shared anywhere else!

And for my next trick...

Last but not least, a quick look at what is ahead. All in all, this first Behind the Archives post will likely be much longer than the real deal once I get them rolling. I hope everyone enjoys the new format, it should provide a much more structured update which makes it easier for me to wrap my mind around it each time and keep making them consistently.

At any rate, with the last couple of weeks of the year upon us, I will be a little busy planning out my social media plans and preparing content. However, I promise I'll get some rest and downtime in! You can expect the first official Behind the Archives posts to start arriving after the new year! Until then...
