Selected Record: Of Oracles and Sirens
Status Report
Its been a while! I've been pushing myself pretty hard with drafting for book 2 in the Oraculi Chronicles, getting last minute items lined up for the launch for Of Oracles and Sirens, and keeping up with family while squeezing in some downtime to avoid burnout.
The good news is that everything for Of Oracles and Sirens is now finalized! I have a launch party arranged at our local Pageturners Bookstore on April 11th, as well as couple more appearances at book fests in May and June. I'll be spinning up an events section on the website here for those that don't follow my social media channels. I have my first batch of author copies of the book, as well as a new set of bookmarks and a very nice rollout banner for events.
Book 2 drafting is proceeding at a good pace once again! I'm a little over 30,000 words presently, and I'm already excited about getting this one out to readers. I think its going to be a great expansion for the start of the Oraculi Universe that everyone will get with Of Oracles and Sirens!
Highlights from the Archive
There have been a number of new Requiem Log entries since the last post! If you're unwilling or unable to view these on TikTok, they are also rolling out on my YouTube channel as we approach the launch date for the book.
Behind the Curtain
The setting for book 2 is the planet Elpis in the Trappist-1 system, the fourth planet from the red dwarf star. Moving from a starship to a full planet for my setting has lead me down the path of creating entire eco-systems, or at least the concepts of them that would lead to various creatures that my characters will be crossing paths.
One of the creatures I have creates is a forest dwelling species that looks like a cross between a starfish and a monkey, earning it the obvious moniker of: starmonkey! They have five limbs, with a rearward arm and hand where you might expect to see a tail, and a bat-like face with large ears. They travel in small family groups and are rather intelligent, though still quite primitive.
And for my next trick...
With less than 3 weeks till Of Oracles and Sirens' launch, I'll be very heads down on drafting for book 2. My goal is to have the first draft finished by the end of May, and presently I'm on track to do so.
At the same time, I'm following up with my early readers to get their reviews posted, lining up more events to attend for a small book tour within roadtrip distance in the midwest, and eyeing other marketing options to ensure Of Oracles and Sirens gets off to a good start.
I'd expect updates here to slow a bit after April, picking back up as book 2 comes together.
