Welcome, everyone! Introductions are in order! My name is Aaron Strix-Corvus Labertew, and I am just beginning my journey as an author. My first book will be the start of a much wider universe, one that will be host to many types of stories from all sorts of different perspectives. I am approximately half-way through the first draft and hope to have it finished by Spring, with an aspirational launch date at the end of Summer.

The Dream that spawned a Universe

The inspiration for this book came from a vivid dream that I had one night. It was so intriguing that I immediately wrote it down as soon as I awakened. The tension and mystery of it were fascinating. In this dream an alien presence onboard a starship need humans with compatible brainwaves to use as conduits for more fluid communications. They claimed that only through this mind to mind communication could they help fix the ship. The chosen few were subjected to the influence of their leader, and resisting him lead to terrifying consequences.

What is The Great Filter?

The Great Filter is a sci-fi thriller set aboard Requiem de la Lune, a colony ship sent from a dying Earth to a distant star system. Decades into its voyage, the ship breaks down in deep space, and when an alien species offers to help, the crew has little choice but to accept. But these aliens have their own agenda.

Renata, a young technician, becomes entangled in trying to discover what the Pod are up to. She is chosen to communicate with their leader whose mental grip over others is terrifying. Forced into a battle of wills, Renata must find a way to resist him, uncover the truth behind the aliens' presence, and ultimately regain control before humanity’s last hope is lost.

A new Sci-Fi Universe

As I began to craft the world around the scene from my dream, the richness and potential for the universe became readily apparent. What happens when humanity passes a crucial test for survival in this universe? What do we become afterwards? What discoveries wait for us? And do we truly move forward, becoming a better people, or fall prey to the mistakes that lead to our home planet's destruction?

I hope that my future readers will have as much fun with these stories as I am having while crafting the universe it is set in! My vision for it is broad and has room for many different types of stories. In my career in IT I thrive on feedback for my work, and I look forward to hearing what stories people will want to hear next!

What's next?

I plan on self-publishing The Great Filter later this year and will have updates on my progress in both blog posts and on my social media pages. Knowing me, this will likely be accompanied by some random background details, history from the universe, and maybe even some artwork (commissioned to be sure, not done by me!) to build out the lore. There IS a name I have in mind for the universe at large, but that, dear readers, is being held in secret until enough of you have read the first book!

Stay tuned, and in light of all the deeply alarming stuff going on in the world right now, stay safe!
